If you have been a keen follower of the indy, punk, ska scene of the last 10 years, you will probably be aware of the RX Bandits. If not, then go and find out about them straight away, well after reading this article obviously! They started out as a ska band in the 1990’s and were a huge success straight out of school with their first proper release Half Way Between Here and There, when I was making office furniture in London.

Since their first album release, the sound that they have produced has been constantly evolving to keep up with the evolution of them as individuals and musicians. This is one thing that has often cause criticism by some of the fans, who loved their original ska punk roots, but is the one thing that has set them aside from all of those bands that they toured with all those years ago. The second album was Progress, and it was a true sensation in the scene, giving them notoriety and critical acclaim. At this point the band were definitely seen as a ska band still, although they did have heavy rock and reggae feels to some songs also. There was a Sax and Trombone player, at this point, and they were becoming known for their excellent live performances.

The third album, moved away from the ska scene slightly, and the band began to develop and expand on their style, taking in many influences. The lyrics to the bands music is another thing that has set them apart, with Matt Embre composing most of the titles, they are full of political and spiritual meaning, and this adds extra depth to the music. The last two albums are ….And the Battle Begun, and Mandala, and both of these develop further into a style that could not be replicated by any other band.

These days what is found in the Scottish rock scene often makes many of us lovers of the genre want the good old days to come back and soon. We may find ourselves listening to those classic rock band that are long forgotten and praying that someday soon one of them would resurface. Well the wait seems to be over as the classic rock band Nazareth has recently released their newest album, ‘Big Dogz’.

This latest project can in no way be considered one of those that seem to seek to cash in on the bands past glory for the sake of it. Now Nazareth is considered one of Scotland’s greatest export and the paved the way for many of the rock bands from the country. They have also been a great influence on a number of rock bands.

In the 70’s many fans would fill up with red diesel Scotland to go see Nazareth perform and to enjoy the bands mixture of progressive rock and hard rock. With this new album the band seems to have captured the sound, feel, and musicality of that time gone by.

“Big Dogz” features two of the original members of the band bassist Pete Agnew and vocalist Dan McCafferty with Jimmy Murrison replacing lead guitarist Manny Charlton and Lee Agnew (Pete’s son) replacing the late Darrell Sweet on drums.

The album features an amazing array of songs including “Big Dog’s Gonna Howl,” which showcases the bands musical talents and versatility. There are love songs done in the style of what we all would have expected from this talented bunch. The alum is so reminiscent of the hay day of this band but with a modern take that is so refreshing.

This is a great album from a band that many ne bands can certainly learn from. One can only hope that it won’t be their last.

Anberlin are rock band hailing from the alternative rock genre and emerging from the sunny delights of Winter Haven in Florida. The band have been around for approaching on a decade now and show no signs of slowing down. Anberlin are made up of lead vocalist Stephen Christian, two guitarists in the form of Joseph Milligan and Christian McAlhaney, as well as bass guitarist Deon Rexroat and not forgetting drummer Nathan Young. Anberlin’s most recent release ‘Dark is the way, Light is a place'is their fifth studio album and second release via label Universal Republic. The album, which was recorded in Nashville quickly reached the heights of number two on the iTunes album charts and made an impressive debut at number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band is well worth checking out and seeing them live is a must if funds allow. Check out their myspace page at ww.myspace.com/anberlin for info on up and coming tour dates, of which there are quite a few! The band are playing a number of key dates in Australia across the tail end of August and in to September, before embarking on a co-headliner with Switchfoot in North America throughout September and October. November 2011 sees the band in to Europe with gigs in the UK, incl London, Manchester and Birmingham amongst others.

It was browsing through Wikipedia a few years back that first brought the Sziget festival to my attention. Based in Budapest, Sziget is one of the best international music festivals in Europe. Playing over seven days every August on the Sziget Island floating on the Danube between Buda and Pest, it represents everything that is great about music. Forget Glastonbury, Sziget is where all the great artists go to showcase their latest and greatest.

The 2011 line up (August 8th - 15th) includes; Kasabian, The Prodigy, Kaiser Chiefs, Empire of the Sun, Interpol and many more. Amy Winehouse was scheduled to appear but has cancelled at the last minute…probably a good thing to be honest. Last year Muse closed the festival on the main stage with an outstanding performance from their latest album and many of their previous hits.

The festival is in a prime spot allowing you easy access to explore both sides of the city and sample all of the great food and bars that can be found there. All the festival goers are friendly and you don’t have to worry about feeling out of place. It’s a much friendlier vibe then any other festival I’ve been to. Also if you’re worried about roaming fees on your phone, there are many deals available in Budapest that can lessen your worldwide roaming prices. Last year I was unable to share all my photos straight away mainly because my old tariff wouldn’t allow me the data storage required. This year I am well prepared and will be uploading as many photos and videos from Sziget as possible.

Sziget is one of the best places to be this summer. If you haven’t already booked, do so now before all passes and tickets are sold out.

Lady Gaga has become the phenomenon because her outrageous antics effectively shifts focus away from the fact that the is a damn good singer. She may not be the best in the business but her albums contain really good music. She may not have lasted for long had she stuck to conventional methods to popularize her album. However, Lady Gaga the phenomenon has overtaken Lady Gaga the singer to such an extent that people are actually surprised that they like her songs.

The Fame, her 2008 album sold more than 4 million copies and EP The Fame Monster sold more than a million copies in USA. Her next offering is the album Born This Way. The choice of titles for her albums are interesting as the titles seem to reflect what Lady Gaga thinks about herself.

The album has been crafted during her tours. Reportedly, Lady Gaga had an exclusive bus serving as a recording studio and the sound engineer and producers traveled with the artist on her tour to come up with the latest offering.

The album, according to the artist, is the answer to frequent questions that end up asking the same thing – Is this really you? The artist wishes to tell all that she is not an act and that was born this way. Whether this is true or not, there is no denying that the concept underlying the music is tantalizing enough to excite curiosity of ordinary individuals performing secondary teaching jobs and leading an ordinary life.

Every album we become fond of can be closely linked to a very specific moment in our life. From the moment we got into music we started to compose the soundtracks to our lives. Every time you listen to that album you brought in the summer after you left school you wonder why you never took up one of those Secondary Teaching Jobs to enable you to re-live those endless summers where you didn’t have to worry about when the next pay check was coming in. No wonder people become teachers. Every time you started a new job or began a new relationship with someone there will always be a song list to go with it. And whether you like it or not you will always be reminded of that time in your life when you listen to that album every time. Music doesn’t let us forget that is why we become so attached to it. In some cases I can’t listen to certain pieces of music because it can take me to a place I don’t want to be, which is incredibly sad when I know I used to love whatever it may be. What about those albums that never have a life scene put underneath it? Well as far as I’m concerned they are the albums that stand up to true greatness, as they are the ones you have never stopped listening to. Once you’ve figured out which ones they are you’ve discovered the albums you can never live without.

No, I’m not talking about karaoke, that destroyer of great music, but the embarrassing moments when you realise that you’ve been singing away to your iPod in public. Is there really anything worse than noticing your fellow tube passengers, coffee shop patrons or gym addicts are giggling away at you as you tunelessly hum along to a Britney Spears number? Because it’s always something really tragic. Why can I never get caught singing along to something cool like The Xcerts or Twin Atlantic?
I was pleased to see it isn’t just me that it happens to. I was out making some enquiries about solar panel prices the other day and at one of the offices I went to here was an assistant in the back who was singing his heart out to that Starship song from the movie Mannequin. I think it’s called “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” but I actually hope that I’ve got that wrong in order to regain a little street creed after admitting that I listen to Britney in the gym. Look, her songs have a really good beat for exercising to – that’s all…
I think there is one thing more embarrassing than singing along to your iPod and that’s singing along at gigs and getting the words wrong. You see someone at every concert doing that. Mouthing vacantly, pretending they know what they’re doing, when really they have no clue what they should be singing. If you want to see a fine version of that, check out John Redwood at the Welsh Tory conference in the 90s pretending he knows the words to “Land of my Fathers”; comedy genius!

Music was once a commodity that you were so proud that you owned. You would actually go to a town or city just to visit a record store where you would buy a few records. Music of course became much less of a commodity when you could download an artist’s entire discography in less than a minute. You would have thought that this would change how we consume music. Perhaps unlike previous years where it has been ownership of the record that was most important it would finally become about listening to the record. But the opposite thing has seem to happened. People seem to care less about music than they did when they had to spend so much money to acquire it. You can see this in how much money people are now spending on music, but also in terms of how people are not having so much respect for their music.

The fact is that even if you don’t earn as much money as someone who plays the stock market courtesy of someone like Galvan Research, you can still actually afford to spend money on something that allows you to really enjoy the music that you own. The worst thing about modern music listening is the terrible quality of the machines people use to listen to music — they use their phones, their laptops speakers, or cheap iPod speakers. It’s just not good enough. I recommend you buy some quality headphones in order to help yourself really rediscover what quality music is all about.

<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>A United States Appeals Court recently confirmed a decision that an eBay’s seller’s rights to resell his promotional CDs which he purchased from second-hand stores and has rejected Universal Music Group’s (UMG) claim that the sticker that was on the CD has created a license agreement that forbids the resale of it.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"/>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>Troy Augusto was sued by UMG because he was offering promotional CDs on the eBay site. It was the sticker that was on the CD that has caused the problem because it said that they were meant ‘for promotional use only and not for resale’. Which they claim, meant that Augusto didn’t have the right to resell the CD’s after he bought them.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>In its decision the court stated that UMG had no control over the CDs once it sent them out and it was not expected that the purchaser should have to agree to any set conditions. This ruling has freed promotional CDs from any claims of copyright infringement.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>The court thus has rejected this copyright infringement claim, as they said that just putting some kind of notice on copyrighted work does not prevent that work from being sold.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>So it seems that once a copyrighted work is given then the holder doesn’t have the rights anymore. It cannot stop anyone from lending it to their friends or even selling it if they wish. It is up to the consumer what they do with it after purchasing the CDs.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>It was apparent that UMG had transferred the title to all of the copies of the promotional CDs and that they cannot stick an infringement action on Augusto for his sale of the copies afterwards.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"lang=EN-GB>It is time that these types of rulings went in the favour of the consumer rather than the big record companies. Now we can do business and even afford raf insurance at least.

Performing and producing music in the house genres and trance, Armin has become a leading DJ around the world with 3 years being announced the top DJ among all artists in that music style. Born in 1976 in the Netherlands, he became an icon for the young generations not only because of creating extraordinary tracks, but also because of mixing other features and styles in his performances.

Armin graduated from high school in 1995 but his interest for music was gradually increasing. He became a law student later but his love for house and trance music were remarkable thus leading him to this first job at a local club called Nexus. There he first experienced the love of the crowd, the addiction to the sound and the opportunities this might reveal. Feeling that he is capable of having a DJ career, he put his law degree on hold to develop music projects and, although he graduated with a law degree, in 1999 he made his way to the top European charts enjoying a very successful season from the exhibition of his talents in Ibiza, Spain -a top place for all DJs performing in the house genre.

The following years made Armin Van Buuren an influential figure in the house music -by successfully releasing a couple of albums he menaged to mix features of the progressive house music, techno and trance in a compilation knows as ’A State of Trance'(different from his weekly radio releases under the same name). Working with several well known American and British artists and releasing another successful album, Van Buuren had a massive 11, 000 fans concert with a 9 hour long set prepared only by him. This gained him a world-wide music recognition and the following year, 2007, he was rated number one DJ among one of the best DJs performing.

Influenced by different trends in the house and trance music and creating tracks with extreme sharpness and sound, Armin still remains the top DJ with millions of fans and visited destinations. His music is a symbol of the 21st century generation and a valuable contribution to the house music as a whole.
